Yin and Yang is a concept originating in Chinese philosophy signifying that two opposing characteristics can exist in harmony with one another, balancing and complementing each other.

These examples inspired me to create my own Yin and Yang based on a photo of two military horses injured in London when they were startled and escaped from their riders. The pictures of the horses running scared and covered in blood from their injuries were disturbing, but the subsequent picture released a week later of the two horses recovering in a beautiful field bathed in sunshine was a poignant reminder of the Yin and Yang of emotion and experience. For me, it perfectly depicts the overcoming of trauma.
